Lives in the Balance: The Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) Model
Founded by child psychologist Dr Ross Greene (author of The Explosive Child, Lost at School and Lost & Found), Lives in the Balance is the free resource hub for Collaborative & Proactive Solutions, an evidence-based, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming model built on the premise that "kids do well if they can."
Rather than relying on rewards and consequences to modify behaviour, CPS helps adults identify the underlying, unsolved problems driving a young person's concerning behaviour and work through them collaboratively rather than punitively. Schools using the model have reported dramatic reductions in discipline referrals, detentions, suspensions, restraints and seclusions, alongside improved school culture and climate.
Lives in the Balance provides a comprehensive range of practical resources for educators and parents including:
-
Assessment of Skills and Unsolved Problems worksheet
-
Video demonstrations of Collborative Problem Solving in practice
-
A School Discipline Survey for school leaders to reflect on their current behaviour management approaches.
